{"id":30177,"date":"2023-05-17T10:03:46","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T17:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/?p=30177"},"modified":"2023-05-17T10:06:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-17T17:06:01","slug":"playground-commemoration-brings-together-denney-gardens-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/playground-commemoration-brings-together-denney-gardens-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Playground commemoration brings together Denney Gardens community \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Call it a bug, a race car or even a lunar lander, the jungle gym in the center of Denney Garden\u2019s new playground is now open to fire up a host of children\u2019s imaginations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 6, it was surrounded by Habitat volunteers, donors, and staff for a commemoration to celebrate the playground\u2019s completion \u2014 a final project for the recently finished 16-home Habitat community in the heart of Beaverton. The specially designed playground was made possible by a donation from the Huntting family.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been doing Habitat for 21 years,\u201d said Bill Huntting, who along with his wife, Becky, and other family members have supported Habitat in many ways. Bill\u2019s late sister Patti was a dedicated volunteer on the homeowner selection committee for many years. Becky is renowned for her dedication to providing home-baked cookies for volunteers throughout Bill\u2019s tenure as a site manager and designer of Habitat homes over the past two decades. \u201cIt&#8217;s nice to see the buildings come to fruition and people move in \u2014 and see the kids play.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30176\" width=\"470\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-1536x1017.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/habitatportlandregion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_0714-2048x1356.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Becky and Bill Huntting.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In addition to the jungle gym, the playground features rubber floor tiles for safety, and is fully accessible to children and their caregivers of all abilities. It is bordered by freshly planted flowers and a memorial bench, inscribed to the memory of Irvin and Janette Huntting, Bill Huntting\u2019s late brother and sister-in-law whose generosity funded this project, and four others at Habitat communities throughout the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the speakers at the event was Steve Messinetti, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region\u2019s President and CEO, who acknowledged the contributions of supporters and volunteers, along with the individuals and families who&nbsp;form the community of Denney Gardens. The new playground is an extension of Habitat\u2019s work to build safe and affordable homes that create stability for future generations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor me, Habitat has always been about the kids,\u201d Messinetti said. \u201cIt&#8217;s about helping kids realize their full potential and giving them that opportunity that everybody should
