\nWith the recent merging of Portland<\/span>\/<\/span>Metro East and Willamette West Habitat affiliates, our new organization<\/span>\u2014Habitat for Humanity Portland\u00a0<\/span>R<\/span>e<\/span>gion<\/span>\u2014now\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0has a total of\u00a0<\/span>four<\/span>\u00a0active build sites across the region. With such expansion, we will now be able to tackle the shortage of affordable homeownership in our region with<\/span>\u00a0even<\/span>\u00a0more efficiency.\u00a0<\/span>By<\/span>\u00a0increas<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>our\u00a0<\/span>construction capacity<\/span>, we<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>will not<\/span>\u00a0only<\/span>\u00a0be able<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>partner<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with\u00a0<\/span>more people,\u00a0<\/span>we will<\/span>\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>be able<\/span>\u00a0to better tailor our service<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0to communities that are disproportionally left out of homeownership opportunities.\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>n this first year of our merger, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region will have more than 100 homes under construction.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Right now, we<\/span>\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>building\u00a0<\/span>two communities\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0in Northeast Portland, one in Southeast Portland, and one in Beaverton. Here is an overview and\u00a0<\/span>progre<\/span>ss\u00a0<\/span>update\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0of each.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nSimpson<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\"\"At Simpson, we are building a 10-home community in the heart of the Cully\u00a0<\/span>n<\/span>eighborhood. Located on the 6300 block of Killingsworth St<\/span>reet<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0this community\u00a0<\/span>will be home to<\/span>\u00a0a diverse se<\/span>t<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>homebuyers<\/span>. Of the 10 homes, there will be two-, three-, and four-bedroom options along with one parking space per unit and will feature electric-powered appliances, fenced backyards,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Earth Advantage certification. Currently, three of the four\u00a0<\/span>duplexes and triplexe<\/span>s have been framed. The first\u00a0<\/span>unit<\/span>\u2019s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation has been completed with the next\u00a0<\/span>unit<\/span>s\u2019 rough-installs occurring in January and February.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nKenton<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\"\"In<\/span>\u00a0Kenton<\/span>, Habitat is building a 30-home community consisting of two\u00a0<\/span>structures\u00a0<\/span>reaching three stories high. These 30 sustainable homes are located at the intersection of N. Interstate Avenue and N. Kilpatrick Street in the Kenton neighborhood.\u00a0<\/span>Many of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>home<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0will be sold to\u00a0<\/span>homebuyers<\/span>\u00a0who have generational ties to\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>area<\/span>, as part of the\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>ity\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>North\/Northeast P<\/span>reference\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>olicy<\/span>\u2014a tool that helps address the harmful impacts of marginalization and displacement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nSo far,\u00a0<\/span>12 homes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0in the finishing stage<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0which will continue into January. Home interior finishes are being installed<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0including<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0lighting, appliances, flooring, and painting. Final exterior finishes, such as a ramp for accessibility, corridor deck waterproof coating, mailboxes, bicycle racks, and address numbers are also being installed. Once our crews do a final deep cleaning of each unit, we\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0welcom<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0homeowners in early 2021!\u00a0<\/span>Then<\/span>, we\u2019ll move\u00a0<\/span>onto building<\/span>\u00a018 more homes<\/span>. Right now, we\u2019re working with sub-contractors to help lay the foundation. We will begin framing\u00a0<\/span>in early 2021.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nCherry Blossom<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\"\"Located in the Mill Park neighborhood in SE Portland, Habitat\u2019s newest community\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0will consist of 31 homes. This community\u00a0<\/span>will feature a green space, playground, one garage for each unit, and the homes will vary in size from two- to five-bedrooms. Right now,\u00a0<\/span>we\u2019re installing the<\/span>\u00a0retaining\u00a0<\/span>walls to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>secure the homes on the property\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>slope<\/span>. The stormwater, sewer, and water service pipes<\/span>\u00a0installation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>complete<\/span>. Soon, we will<\/span>\u00a0lay<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>foundati<\/span>ons and framing<\/span>\u00a0for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>each home<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

\nDenney Gardens<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\"\"Denney Gardens is located in SW Beaverton and will be a 16-home community. Currently, the project is about half-way completed<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>E<\/span>ight<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>homebu<\/span>yers and their<\/span>\u00a0families\u00a0<\/span>hav<\/span>e\u00a0<\/span>already<\/span>\u00a0purchased and<\/span>\u00a0are now<\/span>\u00a0living in their homes. The\u00a0<\/span>remaining eight<\/span>\u00a0units consist<\/span>\u00a0of two\u00a0<\/span>tri<\/span>plexes<\/span>\u00a0and a duplex. Right now, one building is nearly through electrical and plumbing installation and will have insulation and drywall installed at the end of January. On the other two homes, we are excavating the final portion of land and pouring concrete foundations<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0which include<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0home slabs, garages, and sidewalks. This process is scheduled to be completed by the end of January, soon followed by framing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
